From parenting support to early intervention services, the health center provides a variety of important early childhood programs to help you and your family during pregnancy and after your baby is born. These programs include:
Nurturing Families Network (NFN):
NFN is a parenting support program that provides information, guidance and assistance to first-time parents at no cost. Our staff works with expectant and new parents to help them learn how to care for their baby and adjust to the many demands of becoming a new parent. Services are available to both moms and dads in person or over the phone. To learn more, click here.
New Haven Healthy Start:
Healthy Start is a program of case management and support for pregnant and parenting women receiving care at Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center. The overall goal of the project is to improve the maternal and child health care system, to reduce the rate of infant mortality, low birth weight/very low birth weight, to improve perinatal outcomes and to address related health disparities. For more information, please call (203) 503-3109.
Birth to Three:
We are part of the CT Birth to Three system and accept referrals through the Child Development Infoline (CDI) at (203) 505-7000 or www.birth23.org. If you are concerned about your child’s development, we will evaluate the need for services in all developmental areas – motor, cognition, communication, personal-social, and self-help skills. Children are provided with experience through early intervention services by qualified and experienced professionals. Speech pathology, occupational therapy, behavioral health and education interventions are offered. Many of our staff are bilingual. We encourage parents and family members to participate in the program. Services are delivered both at home and in the community.
To request Birth to Three early intervention services you can either:
- Contact Infoline (211) or the Child Development Line directly (800-505-7000). If you would like our program to provide the evaluation, you can request us by asking for Cornell Scott Hill Health Center at 226 Dixwell Ave, New Haven (203) 503-3440 at that time; otherwise, your child will be assigned to the program in your town that is next on rotation.
- Follow the link: (http://referral.birth23.org/guestbook/ReferralForm.htm) to e-mail your request directly to info-line. You can designate Cornell Scott Hill Health Center on the referral form.
Outpatient Speech Therapy:
Pre-school and school aged children in need of speech therapy are welcome to receive services at our site. An engaging, child oriented, speech language pathologist is available to help children with speech and communication delays.
Our playgroups provide a stimulating program for children ages 2 to 3 years. Curriculum is seasonally themed and children learn through art, pretend play, and field trips. Social interaction and communication are encouraged through turn taking and group activities. Community playgroups are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. To learn more, click here.
